PSP1800 『Vol.14 Reika (D=OUT) x Saga (Alice Nine)』Part 1

Soooooo... I attempted to translate this super long interview. I'm really sorry for the mistakes here and there because my Japanese is really not that good but I figured this would be a pretty good practise and if you happen to want to know the gist of what are they talking about, happy reading!

P/S: Sometimes I do a little guessing because I just can't form the sentence to express what were they saying ;3 Many apologies for that again! * is for the parts that I am < 50% sure xP

With my nonsense aside, here I present you Part 1 of the PSP 1800 series : Reika (D=OUT) x Saga (Alice Nine)!

Times when the band is boring!? "How can it be" frank talk

 - About this talk, there is no particular purpose.
[Saga] Seems so (lol).
[Reika] I heard about it but it really seemed like it (lol).

- Ahahaha. So it has already became a rumour (lol).
[Saga] Yep. The people who have done this told me stuff and I was looking forward to when was I going to be called (lol). Thanks for calling me (lol).
[Reika] No no. Thank you so much for coming!
[Saga] What does everyone talks about?

- Taizo (Kra) and Reno (ViViD) had a maniacal guitar talk but, Taizo and yuji (SuG) talked about their favourite food.
[Saga] Har!? Favourite food!? Then I can talk about anything at all isn't it (lol). Speaking of which, for that sort of topic, you don't even have to do it here (lol).

- You said you heard stuff, it's the good stuff about this talk right (lol).
[Saga] Ah, it's the opposite (lol). What did you talked about?
[Reika] Somehow, various things but, I only talked about liking NAO-san (lol).
[Saga] Are you serious!? Ahahaha. That's nice, somehow it's becoming fun (lol). Well then, what should we talk about today?
[Reika] What should we talk about (lol).
[Saga] As Alice Nine and D=OUT's common point, our producer is the same yeah.
[Reika] Yeah, it's Okano Hajime-san.

- Okano-san is famous for rarely praising people but I heard he praised Reika.
[Saga] Eh!? Serious!? That's considerably rare!
[Reika] That's what I heard. Ah, that makes me happy!
[Saga] Okano-san is a really picky person yeah.
[Reika] Right.
[Saga] I'm also on the picky side so there are times we have clashes. We don't praise each other so we clash pretty much. However, I think that's a good thing too. Okano-san has a strong bassist temperament but I, should I say that I am not really picky with the bass (lol).
[Reika] Ah, seems so! I've heard that when Saga-san is doing pre-production, he doesn't play the bass and looks at the entire thing.
*[Saga] That's right. I bring all my parts through step recording to the extent that someone said to me "What kind of part are you!?". Nobody said anything about the guitars and drums. They are very, very picky about that (lol).
[Reika] Instead of saying 'bassist temperament', it's more like 'artiste temperament' right.
[Saga] That's true. At the very moment D=OUT joined Tokuma Japan, I happened to listen to your very first single's demo. At that time, I really liked Reika-kun's bass, you know. I was surprised that it was really well arranged and the bass was really played right. I realized that this person was playing the bass completely different from me and it immediately made me interested.
*[Reika] Whether it's good or bad, I won't let myself be surprised with the sounds that I produced myself. My personality is that I really want to produce my own sounds. I think it's 'such a troublesome personality' though (lol). When I think that way, it's the complete opposite right. Are you the main composer?
[Saga] Nope, everyone is composing lately so our style is changing again. Now, for my own mode, compared to composing, I'd like to go to school.
[Reika] School!?
[Saga] Yep. Somehow, I wanna try studying stuff like music theories. You are composing songs too right? What sort of songs do you compose?
[Reika] Basic dark ones.
[Saga] Dark ones!?
[Reika] Yeah (lol). Dark ones (lol). That's why I can't compose exciting* intense songs. I keep writing dark ballads or medium type songs.
[Saga] Hehh~. Where are your music roots from?
[Reika] The entering of rock was THE YELLOW MONKEY-san.
[Saga] I see.
[Reika] What about you?
[Saga] Me? I probably basically only listened to LUNA SEA-san for visual-kei. They have a really manly image right. It's the visual-kei inside of me. That's why, I only went about that for visual-kei. And then, most of it were Western music. I can't really narrow down the genre because I listen too much on a wide range.
[Reika] I see.
[Saga] Somehow, I wonder if my composing is maniacal. Even though recording companies accept it, it's not good? (lol)

- No no, but it's good that the industry accepts it.
[Saga] I'm happy but when you ask if is it 'salable music'? , I feel that it isn't. I'll think that if I'm the recording company, I'll be like 'Hmm'.
[Reika] It's a really difficult problem right. I have times that I think that way.
[Saga] I know right. You know, being frank, playing in a band, don't you have times that you think it's boring?

- Ahahaha. You are being too frank (lol).
[Reika] As expected of a free talk (lol).
[Saga] No no (lol). During the time when I composed songs, focusing on myself as the main composer, I felt that band really became boring. I myself didn't understand it too but I often felt that way. And I thought, at this rate, I should quit the band. From there, somehow or other, I focused on composing and went that way.

- During 『VANDALIZE』?
[Saga] Yep yep. Precisely at that moment. None? That sort of thing.
[Reika] Hmm~ There's none now though.
[Saga] Well, I guess it's because D=OUT properly says the things that should be said and discussions move forward right.
[Reika] Yeah. Our vocalist makes it clear that for melodies that he doesn't want to sing, he'll say that he doesn't want to sing. I'm the same too. For the songs that I don't want to play, I'll say it clearly that I don't want to play and there are still so many things I want to do. What about Alice Nine? Won't you guys clash?
[Saga] We'll clash.. We tend to become live coals quite a lot (lol).
[Reika] Ah, I become live coals quite a lot too (lol). For that we're the same yeah (lol). But, I think that's a good thing. I think to have a colluding atmosphere is not that good and it's important to occassionally have that stinging atmosphere. That's why, when I feel that way, I'll drop live coals on purpose.
[Saga] I see. Do you guys come to rehearsal on time?
[Reika] We do. Our vocalist is a really athelete-type so he's very strict with lateness right from the start. At the rehearsal studio too, when you're late five minutes, he'll say "You're 5 minutes late!". That and the strict prohibition to be late took root right from the beginning when we formed.
[Saga] Amazing!

- Who is it? Alice Nine's person who is always late.
[Saga] Hmm? Alice Nine? Everyone (lol). Probably only Nao-san, he won't be late (lol). Ah no, we're really hopeless (lol). Compared to that, D=OUT is incredible, because we are really sloppy you know~. I think you or Kouki-kun will flip out if you guys are with my members (lol).
[Reika] Hehh~ I totally can't imagine. Somehow you guys are really mysterious (lol).

- Somehow Alice Nine seems to have that sort of image.
[Saga] People always seem to tell us that (lol). But that's totally not the case (lol).
[Reika] No no, I go drinking with the rest of the members as well but even if we get along, they are still a mystery.
[Saga] Really? It was a a gathering of really really straightforward people though (lol).
[Reika] Regarding Saga-san, if you don't know the soccer game 『Winning Eleven』, you can't have a conversation with him isn't it? Or something (lol).
[Saga] Ahahahaha. That!? No no no. I have the confidence that I can get along with any type of people (lol). That image is scary (lol). If I'm interested, I'll go too. However, for bass gatherings, even if I was invited, I've never went for it (lol).
[Reika] Let's go the next time!
[Saga] Nah. I don't know what should I talk about. Morever I'm not detailed about the bass (lol).
[Reika] We don't really talk much about the bass you know (lol). Previously, it somehow became a karaoke contest (lol). Recently, I went to the bass gatherings of non visual-kei bands too. That was also interesting! Let's go the next time! Your circle of friends will widen!
[Saga] Ah...... Okay, because you are sociable.
[Reika] No no, I'm really really an introvert! Basically, I'm scared of strangers.
[Saga] No way! You don't look like it!
[Reika] I'm working hard (lol). At such places, I'll borrow the power of alcohol and go like "Yayy!" (lol). I think there are things you'll profit from there (lol).
[Saga] I see...... I don't have the confidence for that though (lol). I'm really really an introvert you see.

-

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! I thought Saga was really amusing when he talked about the rest XD If you're gonna take it out, do lemme know, thanks!
